Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Commercial Skipper to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of maritime navigation and safety protocols, with the ability to operate various types of vessels in commercial settings. As a Commercial Skipper, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transport of goods and passengers while adhering to all maritime regulations.
Responsibilities
- Navigate and operate commercial vessels safely and efficiently in compliance with maritime laws and regulations.
- Conduct pre-departure checks on vessels to ensure all equipment is functioning properly.
- Maintain accurate logs of vessel operations, including navigation details, weather conditions, and any incidents that occur during voyages.
- Ensure the safety of crew members and passengers by enforcing safety protocols and conducting safety drills as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with crew members, port authorities, and other stakeholders regarding voyage plans and any operational changes.
- Oversee loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring proper handling procedures are followed to prevent damage.
- Provide training and guidance to crew members on vessel operations and emergency procedures.
Requirements
- Valid commercial skipper’s licence (e.g., RYA/MCA certification) is essential.
- Proven experience in operating commercial vessels in various conditions.
- Strong knowledge of navigation systems, maritime regulations, and safety protocols.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick decisions in emergency situations.
- Physical fitness to perform duties on board vessels for extended periods.
- Familiarity with basic maintenance tasks related to vessel upkeep is advantageous.
