Job Summary
Talentaire is a specialist recruitment firm dedicated to connecting talented engineers with industry-leading manufacturers. We’re currently seeking a skilled CNC Setter/Operator on behalf of one of our established clients based in Chesterfield, known for precision-engineered components for the automotive and aerospace industries.
The Role:
You will be setting and operating CNC machines to manufacture high-precision components. This role suits someone with solid experience working with tight tolerances, various materials (including stainless steel and aluminium), and capable of contributing to a high-performance machining team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up CNC lathes or milling machines from engineering drawings.
- Adjust machine settings and tooling offsets to maintain quality.
- Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, ensuring jobs are completed accurately.
- Work with quality and production teams to ensure deadlines are met.
- Assist junior operators and support continuous improvement processes.
- Perform minor program edits (experience with FANUC, Mazak, or Heidenhain is a plus).
- Maintain safe working practices and adhere to company procedures.
Requirements:
- Strong understanding of machine setup procedures and quality control
- Comfortable working to tight tolerances in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to read complex technical/engineering drawings
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- Flexibility for overtime and working as part of a wider team
Desirable:
- Previous experience with multi-axis CNC machines
- Ability to train or mentor junior CNC staff
- Experience in aerospace, medical, or automotive components
