Job Role: Senior Residential Child Care Worker
Accountable to: Deputy Manager/Registered Manager
Hours of Employment: Full time: contracted 174 hours per month, sleep in duties: 23:00 – 07:00 (3-week rolling rota) Equates to 7 shifts in the 3-week period.
Some on call duties will be required to meet the needs of the business. This will be when you feel both confident and competent to You will be paid for all on-call duties undertaken.
- Daily on-call payments – Mon to Thursday at £20.00 and Friday to Sunday at £40.00.

Job Summary:
As a Senior Residential Childcare worker, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of our residential facilities and providing guidance and support to the residential care practitioners. You will work closely with the Registered Manager and Assistant Manager to ensure the well-being, safety, and development of the children in our care. Your experience, expertise, and leadership will contribute to creating a positive and therapeutic environment for the children while promoting their holistic growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the residential care practitioners, acting as a mentor and role model in providing high-quality care to children and young people.
- Promote teamwork and professional development and foster a creative and collaborative team culture in the pursuit of high quality child centred care.
- Assist in the development and implementation of care plans and support strategies, ensuring they are person-cantered and tailored to the individual needs and goals of each child.
- Oversee the day-to-day care and activities within the home, ensuring that all aspects of care are delivered in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular observations and assessments of the children, documenting progress, significant incidents, and any changes in behaviour or well-being.
- Collaborate with the Registered Manager and Assistant Manager to coordinate and facilitate team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities for the residential care practitioners.
- Foster a positive and therapeutic environment within the home, promoting a sense of belonging, inclusion, and emotional well-being for the children.
- Actively seek to build strong relationships with our young people and promote the development and maintenance of positive relationships as an important life skill.
- Support and implement behaviour management strategies and therapeutic interventions, working closely with external professionals to meet the specific needs of the children.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding procedures, risk assessments, and health and safety guidelines, conducting regular checks to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Collaborate with external agencies, therapists, and professionals involved in the care and support of the children, promoting effective communication and coordination of services.
- Stay updated on best practices, research, and developments in the field of residential childcare, sharing knowledge and providing guidance to the residential care practitioners.
- Attend relevant training and professional development sessions to enhance your knowledge and skills in working with children and young people in a residential setting.
Qualification/Experience/Skills/Person Specification:
- QCF level 3 (essential)
- QCF level 4, 5 (desirable)
- Experience working with children and young people in a residential care or childcare setting.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to mentor, motivate, and support a team of residential care staff.
- Strong understanding of child development principles, attachment theory, and trauma-informed care approaches.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships with children, colleagues, and external professionals.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and safeguarding procedures related to residential childcare.
- Ability to effectively manage crisis situations, resolve conflicts, and make sound decisions in high-pressure environments.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required in a residential care setting.
- A valid driver's license will be required.
