Catering Assistant/Storeman Assistant
£12.21/£12.56 per hour
Mayfield School is a Catholic independent boarding and day School for 400 girls aged 11-18 years, in the village of Mayfield in East Sussex. We are looking for a catering assistant/ storeman assistant to clean and maintain our kitchen along with helping the store man with various duties. The role would be perfect for someone looking to start their career in food and hospitality with the chance to progress in an ambitious kitchen or someone looking for reliable consistent work in a great working environment. No previous experience is required as full training will be provided.
Working Hours:
- 40 hours per week, 5 out of 7 days (Monday-Friday with flexibility to work some weekends), between the hours of 7.30am and 4.00pm. (30 minute unpaid and 15 minute paid breaks). This a term-time only role working 34 weeks.
Main responsibilities:
- Assist with in-house deliveries of stores and storage using the school van.
- Receive all deliveries of food and non-food items to the Catering department.
- Upkeep of the storeroom, fridges and freezer/stock rotation.
- Assist with washing up and use of the dishwasher in the pastry kitchen.
- Cleaning down after service and ensuring all surfaces and floors are spotless.
- Supporting the chefs during service, cleaning and returning essential cooking equipment.
- Ensuring all equipment is clean and put away correctly.
- Perform any other duties that may be required.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Previous catering/ kitchen experience is an advantage.
- Working within a team.
- Basic literacy and numeracy.
- Basic food handlers certificate an advantage but not essential – full training will be provided.
- Full clean driving licence.
Skills and Abilities:
- The ability to communicate effectively.
- High Standard of personal cleanliness & appearance.
- Suitability to work with children.
- Self-motivated. Flexible & pro-active.
- Able to work under pressure and take direction from the Management Team and Chefs on duty.
- Reliable, honest and trustworthy.
