The Role
As a Category Buyer, you will play a key role in ensuring our supply chain supports both operational excellence and commercial growth. You will be responsible for sourcing and procuring raw materials, components, and services that align with our business needs while driving cost efficiency, compliance, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and procure raw materials, components, and services in line with operational requirements.
- Develop supplier relationships to ensure reliability, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms to achieve best value and reduce risk.
- Identify and onboard UK-based and international suppliers as needed.
- Support the development of sourcing plans for assigned categories.
- Monitor supplier performance, maintaining KPIs and resolving quality or delivery issues.
- Keep up to date with market trends and supply chain risks to inform purchasing decisions.
- Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, finance, logistics) to align purchasing with demand forecasts.
- Ensure all procurement activity follows company policy, ethical sourcing standards, and relevant UK/EU procurement regulations.
- Contribute to sustainability initiatives, such as sourcing recycled materials and supporting circular economy goals.
About you
- Previous experience in a Buyer or Category Buyer role, ideally within manufacturing sector
- Level 4 CIPS or working towards
- SAP experience desirable
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Familiarity with UK procurement regulations and sustainability considerations.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities.
