Junior Buyer
The Ideal candidate:
- Commercial understanding and some experience in managing departmental budgets, along with ownership for buying at least one range.
- Passion for product and able to develop new product regularly, with an understanding of how specifications can impact quality, lead times and cost prices.
- Customer-focussed, with a genuine interest in the customer journey and able to put forward ideas on how to improve this.
- Strong communication skills and negotiation skills, and able to adapt their style of communication and/or negotiation, depending on the situation.
- Able to confidently present in trade and sign-off meetings, in a clear and engaging way.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accountable for sourcing and selecting a range, ensuring all KPIs are delivered including sales budget, margin and stock cover.
- Has an understanding of all daily and weekly sales reports - including WSSI - and able to trade their category based on findings presented in weekly trade meetings.
- Manages the day-to-day running of their product area, including actioning trade initiatives, minimising risk to the category whilst capitalising as quickly as possible on opportunities to overachieve.
- Responsible for reacting to competitor activity on the back of competitor shops and benchmarking exercises presented by the team, quickly responding to price changes and recognising new product opportunities.
- Works with Merchandising & Buying to lead and deliver a department strategy in line with sales data, market data, SWOT analysis, seasonal trends and lessons learnt, with a focus on the DUSK customer.
- Maintains and grows relationships with wider business functions including Sourcing, Marketing, Ecommerce, Creative, QC, Warehouse, Logistics, Finance and any other department where necessary.
- Leads supplier relationships and supplier SWOT analysis with a focus on capacity, quality, MOQs, ROS, pricing and lead times.
- Accountable for the department Critical Path, ensuring it is managed across the supply base from product development to product launch. Highlights and mitigates risk to supply and delivery.
- Manages OTB along with the merchandiser – signing off product with Senior Management as required, ensuring capitalisation of strong performing products in season and increasing speed to market for new product opportunities.
- Attends regular supplier meetings and overseas trips/ trade shows as required and works with the Sourcing team to highlight gaps in the supply base.
- Accountable for managing development of direct report(s) through 1-1’s and performance reviews.
Essential criteria
Competent in using MS Office: Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
Desirable criteria
At least one years’ experience as an Assistant Buyer or Junior Buyer
Familiar with industry terms and systems (incoterms, WGSN)
