The Vacancy

Are you practical, hands-on, and community-focused? Do you take pride in keeping spaces clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone? Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG) is looking for a reliable and flexible Caretaker to join our team supporting the day-to-day running of our busy community centres.

This role is offered on a fixed term basis, ending 31st March 2026


About the Role

As a Caretaker, you’ll be responsible for ensuring our community centres are safe, clean, and ready for use each day. From setting up rooms for activities and events, to maintaining the building and surrounding grounds, your role is essential in ensuring a positive experience for all visitors.

This is a varied, practical role that includes cleaning, light repairs, and customer interaction – ideal for someone who enjoys physical work, cares about quality service, and thrives in a community setting.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Set up rooms in line with booking schedules, including equipment and refreshments

  • Clean and sanitise communal areas, meeting rooms, and facilities between uses

  • Perform regular security checks and basic building maintenance

  • Litter pick and maintain grounds and external facilities such as astro pitches

  • Ensure safe building access, carry out lock-up and alarm procedures

  • Work closely with facilities and operations teams to support events and activities

  • Provide reception cover and general customer support when needed

  • Report faults, incidents or safeguarding concerns in line with WCHG procedures


What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in caretaking, facilities support, or similar practical roles

  • Knowledge of building safety, cleaning, and basic maintenance

  • Good understanding of health & safety compliance and reporting processes

  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team

  • Flexible with working hours, including evening and weekend shifts

  • Friendly, helpful attitude with strong customer service focus
