Careers Advisor
Term Time + 5 days, 30 hours/week
Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 3.30pm
KEY PURPOSE
To provide an inspiring and best practice careers service throughout Harris Church of England Academy
To provide effective and impartial advice, guidance and support for all year groups regarding their subject options, future study and career choices.
To develop, implement and review a strategic plan which guides the policies, plans, targets and practices of the Careers Department
ACCOUNTABILITIES
The appointee will be line managed by the School Business Manager.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducting individual careers interviews with pupils in all year group
- Organisation of careers questionnaires, guidance with using the academy’s Careers Software, psychometric testing and provision of feedback
- Providing options guidance throughout the school, including selection of A Levels/other courses
- Producing careers information through hard copy literature, e-communications and displays
- Providing guidance to pupils on completing application forms, interview technique and presentation skills
- Developing a network of specialist partners to provide guidance on specific areas
- Innovative and dynamic contributions to the PSSHE programme throughout the school
- Attendance at Parents’ Evenings and active promotion of careers in school assemblies and at Information Evenings and Open Days
- To maintain appropriate records, monitor pupils’ progress and provide statistics as required.
Organising and promoting work experience
- Work with other colleagues, local employers and other organisations to organise and set up appropriate work experience placements for pupils
- Sourcing placements, conducting pre-placement visit, identifying and fulfilling legal requirements and providing support to students on placements
- Preparing students and highlighting key objectives
- Debriefing students, encouraging them to evaluate their experience and write thank you letters
Liaising and engaging with local and national employers as well as other organisations that support employability and opportunity
- Liaison with external careers services
- Supporting any other relevant careers related provision, as required
- Keeping abreast of developments and best practice in careers through research, attendance at training events and conferences and establishing relationships with peers from other institutions
- Preparing for, applying for and working towards the academy gaining the Investors In Careers award
Developing a school alumni network
- Tracking progress of our current leavers
- Systematically engaging with previous leavers to build links with local businesses which will help with future work experience placements and fundraising
- Asking successful past leavers to act as mentors, inspirational role models, speakers in assemblies and enrichment days to provide advice and tips and to help the current pupils with any support, aspiration and information they need to succeed
Mapping out a strategic plan for the academy’s careers provision
- Preparing, monitoring and evaluating a strategic plan for the academy’s careers provision
- Applying for awards for the school

OTHER INFORMATION
As this job will entail working in a school environment, the successful applicant will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
