About this Role

We are looking for a well organised, reliable, trustworthy and enthusiastic individual who has a proven track record of working effectively with children/young people. The ideal candidate must demonstrate that they have knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures in order to join our safeguarding team as a Deputy DSL.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the motivation required to work with children, resilience in dealing with challenging behaviours, and possess the ability to form and maintain appropriate supportive relationships. You will have the confidence and skills to manage the behaviour and attendance of a year group in a secondary school.

The appointed candidate will have the knowledge and skills to provide pastoral and wellbeing support for all students.

This role will be varied and busy and ideally suited to an organised and efficient individual with an eye for detail and accuracy, and who understands the importance of confidentiality and integrity in the workplace.


The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience working with children/young people (11 -18) in a voluntary or professional capacity.
  • Understand and comply with procedures and legislation relating to confidentiality and data protection.
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of current safeguarding issues.
  • Knowledge of school attendance issues.
  • Be a confident and skilled behaviour manager.
  • Be confident in presenting to students and families.
  • Be a motivated individual with the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • The ability to identify work priorities and manage own workload to meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills.
  • Excellent literacy / numeracy and be proficient in IT, covering all elements of Microsoft office.
  • Commitment, initiative and reliability.
  • A flexible approach to meet the varying needs of the school. This post will require some evening and work during the holidays to meet the needs of the school.
