England
Part time
We are seeking highly motivated and conscientious individuals to join us as receptionists in both QH & KGH Emergency Departments. We are offering contracts of 22.5 & 30 hours per week.

We are looking for suitably qualified staff to provide an efficient and effective front of house reception service, perform clerical duties, and have the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Candidates must have experience in dealing with the general public, as this role will involve interactions with difficult/distressed patients and relatives who will expect empathy from you.

Duties will include using various NHS systems to access and record patient details and update their records, registering patients in the emergency departments, booking follow-up appointments, and transporting patients being discharged or transferred.

The ideal candidate will need to be excellent in customer service, flexible, adaptable, and a good team player with the ability to also work independently.

You will be required to work cross-site at both Queens & King George Hospital. The role requires working on an 8-week rolling rota covering both sites 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including public holidays. Following the below shift patterns:
07-15
15-20 (QH only)
15-23
23-07
Appointed staff must work all shift patterns and at both sites, this is non-negotiable.

Book in patients accurately; ensuring all mandatory fields are updated on various systems, ( Careflow, Adastra, and BARTS transport ).

Check the spine for CPIS & FGMIS alerts and communicate to triage nurse.

Book transport for discharged or transferred patients.

Accurately maintain filing in numeric order and archive as per protocol.

Ensure the uniform policy is adhered to at all times.

Ensure telephone enquiries are answered promptly, courteously, and accurately with due regard to patient confidentiality.

Generate appointments for various clinics.

Assist in training of new staff.

Ensure BEST training is compliant at all times.

Ensure the patient/reception working area is kept tidy at all times and confidentiality is maintained.

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures ; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes . We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
