Job Role
To work alongside the team to deliver high quality childcare in a safe, secure and caring environment. Through detailed coaching and training provided by the company, develop their own knowledge and ability when supporting the team, children and parents to the highest standard. To work alongside the existing team to produce detailed Learning Journeys as part of the key person role.
Main Duties
- To assist with the planning and preparation of the EYFS.
- To help set up the playroom/s for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of the session, ensuring that all toys and equipment are clean and safe at all times.
- To act as a key person/assistant key person to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.
- To maintain each key child’s personal file.
- To advise management of any concerns e.g. over children, child protection, parents/carers or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
- To be aware of any special needs a child may have and to familiarise oneself with relevant play and learning plans.
- To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation; having regard to their physical, emotional and intellectual needs.
- Positively manage children’s behaviour.
- Supervise mealtimes and prepare meals in accordance to the Safer Food, Better Business’ guidelines and weekly menus. Special attention must be given to the awareness of any child’s dietary requirements and or allergies.
- Ensure that the kitchen and equipment is kept suitably clean and tidy at all times including walls and floors, attention is to be given to the laundry and its entailed duties.
- To attend practitioners meetings.
- To attend training courses and meetings as required.
- To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other practitioners which is acquired as part of the job.
- To keep up-to-date with current good practice.
- Consistently be a good role model to both practitioners and children and assist in helping new practitioners fit into the team. If necessary offer supervision and effective monitoring of any trainees and students.
- Encompass equal opportunities with regard to religious persuasion, racial origins, gender, disabilities, cultural or linguistic background; to challenge situations where racism or discrimination is displayed.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures that comply with the Children Act, Health & Safety legislation and the statutory framework of the EYFS.
- Complete accident, incident, maintenance, medication and risk assessment records as necessary.
- Work as part of the team and be accountable and receptive to management directions and requests.
Essential criteria
- Willingness to learn.
- CACHE Level 3 Certificate, NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
- A satisfactory enhanced DBS check which confirms suitability to work with children.
- Previous experience of working with young children.
