Job overview

We are looking for an experienced enthusiastic Approved Mental Health Professional to work in our Community Mental Health teams based here in the Wirral. We are an All Age Adult service. We currently have a of vacancy for a part time AMHP post.

We would expect you to do care co-ordination duties and manage a capped caseload which does takes account of you participating on the AMHP rota. As a service we are considering developing an AMHP hub in the future.

You will provide an important and valued professional function working with some of the most vulnerable people in our community. Your professional expertise and approach will ensure individual needs and aspirations are supported at all times, management of risk and safeguarding is of paramount importance. You can expect commitment to your personal and career development. Our Trust has signed up to the Think Ahead Programme to ensure we look at the future of social workers in mental health.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be compliant with the Mental Health Act, Human Rights Act, Mental Capacity Act and associated Codes of Practice to fulfil your duties in this role.

You will need to have experience of working with the service user group and be able to use social work methods to promote positive change, independence and wellbeing in accordance with assessed need, whilst promoting choice and control for adults and carers.

Working knowledge of relevant legislation and ability to apply legislation to practice including the Children Act 1989 is required and good IT skills to support accurate and timely case recordings.

You must hold a recognised Social Work Qualification, be qualified as an AMHP and be registered with Social work England.

Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore you need access to transport for work purposes.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Social work qualification e.g. Degree in Social Work; DipSW or equivalent
  • 2 Year Post Qualifying Award in Social Work.
  • Approved Mental Health Professional qualified.
  • Be registered with Social Work England and able to evidence this
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant postqualifying/ vocational training courses

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to people with a mental health need: o Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA) and/or the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). o Care Act 2014 o Able to demonstrate legally compliant practice.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements.
  • Knowledge and application of locally agreed current policies and procedures
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing with a range of people including non-specialists.
  • Able to demonstrate good organisational, case recording and report writing skills.
  • Awareness of current practice issues and challenges facing Social Workers
  • Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice
  • Able to work with individuals, families, carers/carer groups, irrespective of their circumstances and background.
  • Must be willing to move across teams according to the needs of the service.
  • Able to demonstrate practice which complies with professional standards and organisational codes of practice.
  • Sound assessment and interviewing skills.
  • Understanding of local resources, and the need to arrange packages of support in accordance with statutory requirements and eligibility criteria
  • An understanding of and an ability to deliver excellent customer service and to work in partnership with individuals, families, carers/carer groups, colleagues in the council and partner agencies
