About the Early Chemical Development Team

Pharmaceutical Sciences is a function within the AstraZeneca Biopharmaceuticals R&D unit that creates innovative, efficient solutions by transforming molecules into investigative medicines meeting unmet needs of future patients. The function has four departments: Early Chemical Development, Advanced Drug Delivery, Early Product Development and Manufacturing, and Data Science and Modelling. Our wide-ranging portfolio of projects includes traditional small molecules, nucleotide-based therapies and other novel modalities across AstraZeneca’s therapy areas.

Early Chemical Development (ECD) is a world class CMC department with responsibility for early phase Drug Substance. The department’s responsibilities span from early engagement with Discovery Chemistry groups to manufacture of Phase II Clinical material, and its key skill areas include Analytical Chemistry, Crystallisation, Isotope Chemistry, Large-Scale Laboratory (Kilo-Lab) Manufacturing, Process Chemistry, Process Design, Process Engineering, Route Design and Separation Science.

What You'll Do

We are currently looking for an Analytical Support professional to join us on a 12 month contract within Analytical Chemistry in the Early Chemical Development department. You will play a crucial role in facilitating the efficient operation of analytical teams. Your responsibilities will include a variety of tasks essential for maintaining the productivity of our teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and maintain reference standards for key drug substance projects.

  • Manage the dispensing and shipment of samples efficiently and accurately.

  • Assist with stability study set downs while adhering to appropriate SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) controls.

  • Perform transcription checking of analytical data.

  • Collaborate with team members to streamline analytical processes and fulfil departmental needs.

  • Provide additional support as required by the ECD team to facilitate successful project delivery.

Essential Criteria

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data management and document preparation.

  • Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with internal teams and external partners.

  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Criteria

  • Science based qualification and/or experience in a scientific support role

  • Experience with electronic laboratory notebooks or similar systems.

  • Familiarity with supporting laboratory operations.

  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations and quality assurance processes.

  • Ability to adapt to changing workflows and contribute to process improvement efforts.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across various teams and disciplines.
