Simeon Care for the Elderly is a Scottish Charity (SC012239) providing care to 23 older people. Since 1984, we have supported older people to live an active, meaningful, and purposeful life in a community of care. Simeon offers a small home and a care model that can adapt to meet the physical, social, mental, and spiritual needs of our residents.
We aspire to be a high-quality nursing care home where residents and their families have a sense of security knowing that Simeon will be their home for the rest of their life due to the provision of palliative and end of life care. We work together to create a loving community of care, and help make the last years of life rich, joyful, and rewarding.
Summary
We are seeking an Activities Co-ordinator to join our team at Simeon Care for the Elderly.
Our ethos is all about celebrating life, as Activities Co-ordinator you'll help to devise imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability.
In this role, you will be responsible for delivering, developing and implementing engaging activities that enhance the quality of life for our residents. Your contributions will be vital in fostering meaningful relationships and ensuring that our residents enjoy fulfilling lives.
Purpose
To foster an environment of participation and inclusivity enhancing social interaction and overall wellbeing of residents, creating a vibrant community atmosphere where residents feel motivated and enabled to feel part of everyday activities.
Hold responsibility for planning and co-ordinating recreational activities and events for residents, creating daily programmes and facilitating activity implementation to ensure an enjoyable experience for residents within Simeon Care for the Elderly.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement a diverse range of activities tailored to the interests and abilities of residents, either in groups or individually.
- Coordinate and lead group activities: arts and crafts, music sessions, exercise classes, games, outings and liaise with external entertainers and performers to organise entertainment
- Coordinate with staff to ensure activities are well-organized and accessible.
- Promote social interaction among residents through group activities and events.
- Support residents to meet their spiritual and cultural needs by participating in events and celebrations to support and strengthen Camphill community experience.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make adjustments as needed to meet resident needs.
- Organise raffles & fundraising events for the residents/home as required.
- Maintain accurate records of participation and feedback on activities.
- Support events calendar based on Simeon’s celebrations.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to quality, health and safety, and the environment
Requirements
- Experience in activity planning or recreation management, preferably in a care setting.
- Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with residents, families, and staff.
- Compassionate approach towards elderly care with a focus on enhancing quality of life.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- An understanding of dementia care principles and practices.
- SVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care is desirable or the willingness to undertake within agreed timescales.
- Driving licence essential.
As the role involves working in an environment with vulnerable people a PVG certificate will be required.
