Vacancy Hours: Full time (37 hours per week)

Contract Type: Permanent

We are looking to recruit a Youth Justice Officer to join the Youth Justice Service within the Children and Families Service – Early Help.

Early Help works alongside children, young people (up to the age of 19, 25 years when there is an identified SEND needs) and their families. Our work is strength based and underpinned by our ‘Strength in Relationships’ practice model where we work alongside other relevant agencies to ensure we support young people and their families to create their own sustainable plans that really make a difference. We provide interventions to children, young people and their families, drawing on their strengths and helping to build support networks as well as statutory work for those open to Children’s Social Care and Youth Justice.

The North Yorkshire Youth Justice Service https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/children-and-families/north-yorkshire-youth-justice-service is an established and successful countywide multi-agency partnership, responsible for preventing youth crime and reducing re-offending. We are currently seeking a case manager to join our West Area Team, based in Northallerton. The successful applicant will need to be committed, flexible and creative, with positive engagement skills gained through previous experience of working with young people. The role covers a wide geographical area, broadly based upon the Hambleton and Richmondshire Districts.

The key objectives of the team are to prevent and reduce youth crime, protect the public from serious harm, safeguard the welfare of young people, and to facilitate reparation to victims and communities. The team is committed to providing high quality services to children and young people in the criminal justice system, their parents, and to the victims of crime.

The successful applicant will manage a varied caseload of young people, ensuring that each of them receives high standards of assessment and intervention, and that our safeguarding and public protection duties are fully met. You will have opportunities to explore new areas of practice, including Signs of Safety, Family Finding, Systemic Practice, and restorative justice.

The Youth Justice Service uses an electronic case management database. Applicants must therefore have the ability to deliver professional standards of casework within a structured assessment system, which requires good case recording and keyboard skills.

If you are enthusiastic, highly motivated, passionate, and experienced in working with vulnerable children, young people and their families to ensure they receive outstanding support, then this role is for you. This rewarding post will give you opportunities to:

  • Work in partnership with other agencies within a locality to co-ordinate an effective network of support to ensure young people are supported, and their risks are managed and reduced.
  • Work in a rewarding role where every day can be different.
  • Be part of dynamic team, working with like-minded people to drive chance and embed good practice.
  • Access outstanding training and career progression opportunities across Children and Families Service.

You will receive an excellent rewards package including agile working and flexitime, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, and a generous annual leave allowance.

Enhanced Level DBS Disclosure is required for appointment to this post, and the successful candidate must be able to meet the travel needs of the post.

A degree in a relevant subject e.g., Social Science, Criminology, Foundation Degree in Youth Justice or a relevant professional qualification e.g., Degree in Social Work, Dip SW, CQSW, Diploma in Probation Studies/Youth & Community Work or an equivalent level of relevant previous experience is required.

For an informal discussion or further information about this post please contact Practice Manager Amelia Walters by emailing amelia.walters@northyorks.gov.uk or on 07980013982.
