Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Accountant to join our growing finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional looking to develop a career in legal accounting. You will support the finance department with day-to-day bookkeeping, accounts preparation, and compliance with Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records using legal accounting software (e.g., LEAP/Xero).
- Prepare client and office account reconciliations in compliance with SRA Accounts Rules.
- Process supplier invoices, employee expenses, and petty cash transactions.
- Assist with bank reconciliations, journals, and ledger entries.
- Support the monthly billing process and assist fee earners with billing queries.
- Help monitor incoming and outgoing payments, ensuring proper authorisation.
- Assist in the preparation of management accounts, VAT returns, and year-end financial reports.
- Support audits and liaise with external accountants where required.
- Help ensure the firm’s financial activities comply with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
- Carry out administrative duties related to financial recordkeeping.
Requirements
Essential:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or currently pursuing AAT/ACCA qualifications).
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Desirable:
- Experience in a legal or professional services environment.
- Familiarity with SRA Accounts Rules or legal cashiering.
- Experience using accounting or case management software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, LEAP).
