Overview
We’re looking for a skilled and innovative Technical Designer to join our fast-paced creative workshop, where we build bold and brilliant things—from theatre sets and film props to immersive installations and museum exhibits.
You’ll be the critical link between artistic concept and physical build, producing detailed technical drawings, models, and schematics that bring ideas to life. This role suits someone with an eye for design, a passion for making, and the technical skills to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and creative excellence.
Duties
- Develop detailed 2D technical drawings and schematics using industry-standard CAD software
- Create 3D models using Autocad, fusion 360, SketchUp (or similar) to visualise and communicate complex designs
- Interpret concept art, creative briefs, and artistic sketches into accurate, buildable technical documentation
- Collaborate closely with project managers, scenic carpenters, fabricators, and artists to ensure seamless handover to the workshop
- Use tools such as Revit, MicroStation, ArchiCAD, or Vectorworks to optimise accuracy and workflow
- Evaluate system designs for feasibility, structural soundness, and industry compliance
- Iterate and revise drawings based on client or team feedback, ensuring version control and clarity
- Support the workshop and build teams with technical guidance during fabrication and install phases
Experience
- A creative problem-solver with proven experience as a Technical Designer in a relevant field—sets, events, exhibitions, film/TV, architecture, or fabrication
- Highly proficient in CAD software (AutoCAD, Vectorworks , Rhino, SketchUp, etc.)
- Skilled in producing accurate, well-structured drawings for both presentation and fabrication
- Comfortable managing design iterations and tight deadlines with calm, confidence, and care
- Collaborative and communicative, equally at home talking to designers, carpenters, engineers, or clients
- Experience with digital fabrication processes such as CNC, laser cutting, or 3D printing
- Bonus but not necessary: An understanding of scenic construction, rigging, or live production processes
- Extra Bonus but not necessary: Experience of Vectric Aspire
At our core, we’re a creative powerhouse—designers, builders, dreamers, and doers. Our projects are diverse, fast-moving, and always ambitious. As a Technical Designer here, you’ll have the chance to contribute to meaningful, visible work across the arts, entertainment, and cultural sectors.
If you’re excited by the idea of turning sketches into structures and concepts into reality, we’d love to hear from you.
