Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Support Worker to provide high-quality care and support to young adults aged 16–24 years with complex needs at Codsall, Staffordshire. Support will be delivered in a variety of settings, including assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and private homes.
This role is with a specialist care provider supporting young people with learning disabilities and mental health conditions, including dementia, autism, schizophrenia, epilepsy, and moderate challenging behaviour.
The ideal candidate will be experienced, well-trained, and confident in delivering person-centred care to individuals with complex learning and behavioural needs.
Essential Skills & Training (must have):
- Experience supporting individuals with Complex Learning Disabilities, Autism, and Mental Health Conditions
- Medication training and full competence in the safe administration of medication
- Epilepsy awareness and management (including buccal administration where trained)
- Mandatory training certificates in all core care areas
- Moving & Handling (Theory and Practical)
- Challenging Behaviour Management
- Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
- Understanding Learning Disability & Autism Awareness
- Diabetes awareness
- Children and Young People with Complex Disabilities awareness
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and compassionate when supporting young adults with moderate to challenging behaviours
Desirable / Additional Training (advantageous but not essential):
- Additional specialist care training (e.g., advanced mental health support)
Key Requirement:
Candidates must be fully competent in managing challenging behaviour and administering medication in line with best practice and organisational policies.

Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality personal care and support to young adults aged 16–24 years, including assistance with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and meal preparation.
- Administer prescribed medication safely and accurately, monitoring for any changes in health or behaviour.
- Support with mobility and transportation needs, which may include accompanying or driving young people to appointments, education, or social activities.
- Engage individuals in meaningful and stimulating activities that promote independence, emotional well-being, and social inclusion.
- Implement and follow Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and behaviour management strategies effectively and compassionately.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment, ensuring health and hygiene standards are met.
- Work collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals, and multi-disciplinary teams to develop and deliver individualised care plans.
- Keep accurate records of care provided and promptly report any changes in condition, behaviour, or concerns to the relevant team members.
Requirements
- Previous experience supporting individuals with complex learning disabilities, autism, epilepsy, and mental health conditions.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of challenging behaviour management, autism awareness, learning disabilities, and mental health support.
- Mandatory training certificates (including Moving & Handling, Medication Management, Epilepsy Awareness, PBS, Safeguarding, etc.).
- Certification in first aid is desirable; additional specialist training (e.g., buccal administration, diabetes awareness) is also mandatory
- Physically able to assist with mobility and transfers when required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with young adults and their families.
- Full driving licence (preferred) for transportation duties.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the young people supported.
