Overview

This is a hybrid role working from home and our offices in either our London or Leicester.

Home. There’s no place like it. And there’s no feeling like helping people create the joy of feeling truly at home. At Dunelm, that’s what we do.

We’re the UK's number one choice for homewares because we make home life lovelier for our customers. And the caring and supportive culture we've created makes this a place you'll feel right at home too.

This role is part of our internal Product Design Team. You will be working within a team of highly experienced designers and product people.

Join our Tech Team and you’ll not only be part of stimulating projects that are making an impact across our business, but you'll be working in a creative, supportive team focused environment.

Find your happy place.

What you'll be doing

You will play a key role in expanding our UI development, working closely with the product design team to deliver high-quality, user-centric digital experiences. As we evolve the mobile app from MVP to a more feature-rich and optimised version, you’ll help steer its future design direction—identifying opportunities to enhance functionality, usability, and engagement. A key part of your role will be conceptualising and designing animations and transitions that enrich user flows and bring ideas to life in meaningful, delightful ways. You’ll collaborate with our development partner to ensure these concepts are implemented effectively, while aligning with internal stakeholders to maintain consistency with our evolving design standards. You’ll also be at the forefront of innovation by leveraging AI tools and methodologies to streamline design processes and create more personalised user experiences.

In addition to these responsibilities, you’ll be involved in creating assets, developing design concepts, prototyping, and producing high-fidelity visuals specifically for our website. You’ll help maintain and evolve our design patterns and component libraries to ensure consistency and scalability across platforms. Strong communication skills are essential, as you’ll need to clearly articulate your design rationale to stakeholders across the business and produce detailed handover documentation to support seamless collaboration with developers.

Responsibilities:

  • Support UX designers in delivering "customer first" experiences and innovative design solutions.
  • Design and prototype high-fidelity visuals, animations, and transitions.
Utilise data and insights to inform and enhance design decisions.
  • Maintain and evolve our design system, patterns, and component libraries.
  • Explore and implement AI tools to streamline design workflows and enhance user experience.
  • Ensure all design outputs are accessible and inclusive, meeting relevant accessibility standards and guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with agile teams to support the delivery of high-quality design outputs.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback to other designers, contributing to their growth and the overall quality of the design team.
  • Develop and maintain design patterns that ensure consistency and efficiency across projects.
  • Contribute to the evolution of mobile app UI design, helping to shape its direction while ensuring adherence to platform-specific best practices.

What we'll look for in you

Essentials:

  • A strong portfolio showcasing high-fidelity UI, motion design, and mobile app-specific work.
  • Expertise in Figma, prototyping, and animation tools (e.g., Principle, After Effects, Lottie).
  • Experience with design systems and maintaining design libraries.
  • Deep understanding of UI design principles, including typography, colour theory, layout and responsive design.
  • Knowledge with using AI tools for design
  • Experience in iconography, illustration, and visual storytelling.
  • Experience in motion and interaction design.
  • A collaborative spirit and a positive attitude towards teamwork and shared goals.
  • Mentor team members and colleagues in UI design, providing guidance and advice.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for creating polished, high-quality designs.
  • Demonstrate a flexible, can-do mindset that adapts to business needs, balancing design perfection with practicality and feasibility.

What Will Help You Succeed:

  • A portfolio that demonstrates implementing a design system across multiple applications.
  • A portfolio that includes work that is your own and work that shows the collaborative nature of the role.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates experience in developing and maturing design systems, showcasing consistency and scalability across various projects.
  • A portfolio that illustrates bridging the gap between design and engineering teams.
  • Understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript capabilities and limitations.

Behaviours/Values

  • Stronger Together
At Dunelm, we foster a collaborative team environment. In the Product Design Team, you'll receive support through weekly one-on-one meetings, regular team sessions, and spontaneous mentor discussions. You'll primarily work closely with UX Designers, collaborating with product owners and developers.

  • Making It Happen
You will be instrumental in unlocking complex design problems by providing UI mastery and creative design inspiration. You will require a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues that will be crucial in driving projects forward.

  • Act like Owners
As a Senior UI Designer, you will be expected to develop an in-depth knowledge of our design system and principles. You will serve as the custodian of our asset libraries and possess a deep understanding of how to implement our visual language. You will be the go-to expert for the product design team, while also maintaining a curious mindset to understand our customers, organisation, and industry.

  • Long-Term Thinking
As technology continues to evolve, this role demands a forward-thinking individual with a strong drive for continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proactive mindset—eager to adapt, innovate, and refine tools and processes. Their efforts will directly support the efficiency and effectiveness of the Product Design team and the broader organisation, ensuring sustained high-quality output and operational excellence.
