EcoVigour Ltd. is a combined Ecological / Environmental, Consultancy / Contracting company working within the infrastructure construction, rail, utilities and housing sectors.
Due to new work streams we have a position for a Senior Ecologist based in our Cardiff / Swansea Teams. We have a team of 15 Ecologists ranging in experience from Junior to Principal based across South Wales and the South West of England.
The company operates from a rural office near Caldicot, with the majority of our staff being a combination of site based and working from home. Staff have the option to work from the office and we encourage people to work some days from the office or co-working spaces to ensure team members and interacting and the social side of work is developed.
We deliver a wide range of ecological services for a wide range of clients, generally business to business.

Main Duties and Activities:
- Manage projects to meet deliverables and deadlines, including managing and mentoring other members of the team
- Conduct ecological surveys and assessments across Wales and the West of England, ensuring timely and compliant project delivery. Surveys include Desk Based Assessments and Field Surveys
- Lead fieldwork activities including habitat assessments, species surveys, and ecological monitoring
- Provide expert ecological advice to clients and project teams, ensuring adherence to legislation and best practices
- Prepare clear and accurate reports, management plans, and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA)
- Provide input into EPS Development Licenses, Habitat Regulations Assessments, Biodiversity Net Gain / Net Benefit for Biodiversity Assessments.
- Liaise professionally with clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
- Mentor junior staff, offering training and supervision
- Contribute to business development through proposals, meetings, and networking
- Integrate emerging ecological trends and technologies into project work
- Maintain accurate records and documentation per company standards
- Demonstrate flexibility during peak survey seasons, including travel and overnight stays
- Assist in fee proposal preparation and project quality assurance.
- Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary team.
Job Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of ecological legislation and consultancy experience
- Skilled in data analysis, GIS, and technical report writing
- Associate or full membership (or eligibility) of CIEEM
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Valid UK driver’s license, access to a car, and willingness to travel
- Willingness to undertake relevant health and safety qualifications i.e. CSCS and PTS (Note PTS requires a medical and drugs and alcohol test)
- Relevant degree (e.g., zoology, ecology, environmental management) or equivalent experience
- Willingness to obtain protected species licenses, under mentorship from the EcoVigour Senior Team.
- Physical fitness for outdoor fieldwork in varied conditions
Working Hours:
The Senior Ecologist is contracted to work 40 hours per week, with flexibility across these hours. During the peak survey season (typically May to September), additional hours may be required, which are either paid as overtime or can be held a lieu against additional holiday. We work within the rail sector and hence night and weekend working may be required, which we undertake on a rota basis. We operate strict Fatigue procedures to ensure the wellbeing of staff. The working week will consist of a mix of office-based time and fieldwork, with increased fieldwork during peak seasons.
Salary:
From £34k, depending on experience.
