We are working with a Secondary school in Leeds who are looking for a Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a pupil with additional needs from September. You will need to be available on a full time basis as consistency is key for this particular position. The role is in a mainstream school and you will be working under the direction of the class teacher to provide additional support within the classroom. You will be facilitating learning, managing behaviour and assisting with transitions between lessons.
Ideally, the school are looking for a candidate who has previous experience in a similar role, working with children with SEN needs. A calm and patient individual, you will be able to demonstrate understanding and empathy for pupils who find it difficult to manage in the classroom and need some additional support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the implementation of individual learning plans, adapting resources and strategies to meet specific needs
- Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to ensure consistent and effective support
- Promote independence and confidence in pupils through positive reinforcement and encouragement
Pre-requisites:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly those with EHCPs
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential
- Two education or school-based references.
