About the role
Dr Thomas Ouldridge and Dr Thomas Heinis seek a Post Doctoral Research Associate in molecular simulation of DNA systems for Data storage. As a member of the Principles of Biomolecular Systems and DNA Data Storage groups, you will contribute to an interdisciplinary effort to create highly efficient, automated approaches to molecular nanotechnology. You will join the NEO consortium, funded as part of the EIC Pathfinder Challenge: DNA-based digital data storage, and perform molecular simulations to complement ongoing experiments.
What you would be doing
You will simulate various aspects of data storage in DNA nanostructures using the coarse-grained model of DNA, oxDNA. You will use the model to assess properties of the nanostructures used for data storage, to understand the accuracy with which data can be read out from the nanostructures, and to explore error mechanisms when writing and re-writing data to the nanostructures. You will collaborate with experimentalists to use these results to understand and refine the performance of data storage in DNA nanostructures. You will present your findings through conference presentations and publications.
What we are looking for
You should have a background in molecular simulation, and a track record of successful research including high-quality publications. Given the timescale of the post, we’re particularly looking for people with experience modelling DNA and understanding of the field of DNA nanotechnology. An ideal candidate would have experience with the use of the oxDNA model specifically.
What we can offer you
- An opportunity to contribute to an exciting, interdisciplinary project with partners across Europe.
- The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to continue science for humanity.
- Grow your career: gain access to Imperial’s sector-leading dedicated career support for researchers as well as opportunities for promotion and progression.
- Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes).
- Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing.
