Renewable Energy Consultant – Ideal for those returning to work after a career break
Are you passionate about renewable energy and making a positive impact on the environment? Have you taken time out of your career and are now looking to re-enter the workplace? Do you want an exciting and supportive role that will allow you to develop both your technical expertise and communication skills? If so, this could be the opportunity for you.
At Your Energy Source, we are a growing company and a UK leader in renewable energy grant applications. Our mission is simple: to make renewables easy by removing barriers and increasing the uptake of clean technologies. We are proudly an equal opportunities employer and believe strongly in the benefits of diversity in the workplace.
We are currently seeking a Renewable Energy Consultant to join our team in Falkirk. This role would suit a recent graduate, someone with industry experience, or someone returning to work after a career break who is keen to apply their skills in a new and meaningful context. The role can be full-time or part-time, depending on your circumstances.
Key Requirements
- Applicants must hold a degree or HND in an engineering discipline.
- The role requires you to be based in Scotland and able to work in our Falkirk office at least three days per week (pro rata for part-time).
What You’ll Do
With full training provided, you will:
- Submit renewable energy funding applications to government schemes, including Ofgem's Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).
- Work closely with clients to gather technical data and ensure applications meet scheme requirements.
- Liaise with installation companies and end users, calculate energy usage and performance, and present information in a clear, Ofgem-friendly format.
- Carry out site visits across the UK to advise on technical compliance.
- (As you develop) take on more advanced tasks such as creating heat flow schematics, seasonal performance calculations, or supporting business development.
What We’re Looking For
We know that skills and experience come in many forms, and we welcome applications from people returning to work after time away from the industry.
- A degree or HND in an engineering discipline (essential).
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organisational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English.
- Competence with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workload, and manage multiple projects.
If you have a career gap, please don’t let that stop you from applying — we value the experience and perspective you can bring. Training and mentoring will be provided to help you build confidence and update your skills where needed.
What We Offer
- Salary: £24,500–£27,000 (depending on experience), with increases and bonuses after your first year (pro rata for part-time).
- Flexibility: Hybrid working with three days per week in our Falkirk office (pro rata for part-time).
- Generous leave: 34 days annual holiday (pro rata), increasing each year.
- Wellbeing support: Counselling sessions, mental health app, and an Employee Assistance Programme.
- Training & development: A structured learning pathway and mentoring tailored to your personal development.
- Family-friendly culture: Flexible scheduling, part-time or full-time hours, and understanding around school hours and family commitments.
