This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join the Physiotherapy Team at the Royal Surrey as a rotational inpatient physiotherapy technical instructor.

The applicant must have a previous experience in the role of Physiotherapy Assistant / Physiotherapy Technical Instructor within acute NHS services. Would be ideal for someone who does not have HCPC registration.

Candidates require excellent written and spoken English as well as excellent team working skills, adaptability and flexibility.
There is a requirement for flexible working as the service operates over 7 days and bank holidays on a rostered system.

Work permits are not available for this position.

To assist the qualified physiotherapy staff in delivering a high quality and effective Physiotherapy service to patients in relevant clinical area.

To assist the qualified physiotherapy staff in delivering a high quality and effective Physiotherapy service to patient. To treat patients according to team/ department standards/ protocols individually or in groups.

Responsible for effective communication within multi professional team members/ line manager.
Report to supervisor any clinical problems and patients progress.
Communicate effectively with patients, carer/ relative who may have impaired cognitive function i.e. stroke, deaf patients on patient rehabilitation programme, potential outcome as discussed with supervisor.
Report to multi professional meetings as directed by supervisor.

Undertake the clinical assessment of patients from defined diagnostic groups as requested by a Physiotherapist according to area, training, competencies and standards using assessment protocols and algorithms (this could include taking handovers). Highlight any problems to supervisor prior to treatment.

Following agreement of a treatment plan with the Physiotherapist, progress treatment as per unit guidelines.

Prioritisation of own patients list according to unit’s prioritisation protocols.

Documentation of each patient treatment as per department standard.

Discuss with supervisor regarding the discharge plan for each patient.

Complete health needs assessment forms following discussion with supervisor.

Preparation, checking of relevant equipment, patient, clinical areas in readiness for treatment.

Attendance at relevant meetings as appropriate with other health care professionals. Report to MPT meetings as directed by a Physio and report back to team.

Responsible for own time management on a daily basis.

Contribute to team audit as required.

Document/ record own workload statistics. Maybe required to collate data for team for the monthly report.

Attend all mandatory training.

Complete speciality competencies in clinical area.

Attend relevant in service at a department and unit level.

Maintain own continuous professional development portfolio.

Be aware of and contribute to the teams annual plan.

Actively participate and be responsible for own staff development and review including achievement of core competencies and documentation with support from Senior staff.

Support the team in the reinforcement of core competencies of PTA’s undertaking rotatory training.

Comply with all local health and Safety Trust and local policies.

Undertake appropriate risk assessment prior to all treatments with advice from supervisor.

Ensure safety of all patients and staff and report problems to supervisor taking any necessary remedial action to avoid accident or injury, complete incident forms.

Perform safety checks on equipment and aids as per department standards prior to issuance to patients.

Ensure confidentiality at all times (as per caldicott).

Undertake any other duties as may be required by supervisors.

Comply with all Trust and department policies.

Only treat patients within a defined scope of practice/ competence .
