About the Role:
We are looking for a kind, patient, and proactive Personal Assistant to support a friendly, independent gentleman living with early-stage vascular dementia. He enjoys walking, spending time outdoors, and thrives with positive routine and stimulation.
Your role will be to provide companionship and light support that promotes dignity, autonomy, and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
Offer friendly reminders and encouragement to complete daily routines (e.g., bathing, eating, hydration, and medication)
Support attendance at local and occasional out-of-borough appointments
Plan and accompany the client on outdoor walks and stimulating outings (parks, libraries, community events, etc.)
Encourage engagement in light hobbies or new interests that reduce boredom
Assist with minor day-to-day tasks (e.g., helping prepare for outings, light communication with health services if required)
Be emotionally supportive and responsive to occasional changes in mood or motivation
About You:
You are compassionate, respectful, and genuinely enjoy helping others
You’re a good listener and communicator, with a calm and reassuring presence
You understand or are willing to learn about dementia and how it can affect people differently
You’re discreet and understand the importance of confidentiality and preserving dignity
Experience with neurodiversity, cognitive changes, or emotional wellbeing support would be a bonus
You are flexible and comfortable supporting someone on a one-to-one basis
Requirements:
DBS check (or willingness to undergo one)
References
Basic first aid knowledge (or willingness to be trained)
Ability to travel locally and accompany to appointments or community activities
Desirable but not essential:
Previous experience working with people living with dementia or in mental health support
Familiarity with safeguarding and well-being planning
Confidence in supporting someone in recovery or managing lifestyle change
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £13.85 per hour
