Proposed salary: Band 7.1 on the ABC pay scale, which is equivalent to £42,592.33 (£21.84 per hour) annum dependent on experience (pro rata)
Hours of work: Fixed term contract until September 2026 (shifts 0800-20:00)

Supervision
Regular supervisions on a one-to-one basis including an annual formal appraisal will be held with a line manager. If you are in a patient-facing role, you will also receive regular Clinical Supervisions with a Clinical Supervisor.

Job summary
The post holder will be part of a team that provides an urgent primary care response 7 days a week 0800-20:00 to refugee and asylum seekers accommodated in hotels in Sussex and Surrey, as well as responsibility for various assessments including health checks/TB checks/ and vaccination programmes as required by Public Health to ensure that health needs of refugees and asylum seekers are met.
The service reflects the needs of refugee and asylum seekers and is delivered across an increasing number of hotels predominantly around in west sussex. Because this service spans across Surrey and Sussex staff may need to travel some distance on occasions to see patients in hotels.
This post is offered as a fixed term contract offers clinicians the opportunity to develop additional skills and experience the physical and mental health needs of refugees and asylum seekers.
Primary duties and areas of responsibility
- Work collaboratively with the team, to provide an urgent primary care response to refugees and asylum seekers accommodated in the hotels.
- Carry out opportunistic and planned health screening programmes to meet identified need for refugees and asylum seekers living in hotels, including TB checks/health checks and vaccination.
- Liaise closely with partners, making referrals, signposting and supporting access to local health services, including access to maternity, mental health and primary care.
- Provide information, advice and support to refugees and asylum seekers on issues relevant to physical and mental health.
- Participate in the identification of safeguarding and adhere to ABC’s processes and Surrey/Sussex Safeguarding Adults and Children’s procedures.
- Document where safeguarding concerns have been identified, and make referrals as required.
- Assist in the delivery of specific groups if required, to promote access to healthcare and public health initiatives such as women’s health sessions e.g., health screening.
- Attend all designated statutory and mandatory training and additional training provided to upskill team in issues specific to the needs of refugees and asylum seekers.
- Participate in the orientation and induction of new staff and promote good interpersonal relationships within the team.
- Ensure all practice is evidence based.
- Attend RASS meetings as appropriate
- Maintain standards and practice in relation to professional records/ record keeping
- Adhere to all professional, clinical policies within ABC as well as regulatory bodies.
- Be prepared to work flexibly, to travel across east Surrey/Sussex to deliver this service
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
- Registered General Nurse qualification, (Adult) certificate/degree or registered paramedic- minimum 5 years current or recent experience
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- Vaccinator
Desirable:
- Phlebotomy certification
Experience
Essential:
- Experienced nurse/paramedic
- Experience of working in primary or urgent/emergency care
- Experience with Safeguarding processes
- Experience of working with vulnerable client groups
- Experience of dealing with a range of clinical conditions as typically seen through primary care and/or urgent care
