NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Intensive Care Medicine or General Practice

The role

A Themed NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer (ACL) post in Multimorbidity and Long-Term Conditions for a trainee in either Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) or General Practice.

The role can be full-time or part-time.

Minimum hours considered if part-time: 0.66 FTE (NIHR ACL can be extended to a maximum of 6 years, and the academic component must be at least 0.33 WTE).

What will you be doing?

Post-doctoral research training plus clinical training in either General Practice or intensive Care Medicine. Up to four years WTE post-doctoral training or until CCT is reached, is offered to allow the successful applicant to consolidate their career, develop their skills and begin to establish themselves as an independent researcher and educator. There are a wealth of opportunities for research within Intensive Care Medicine and General Practice (as described in job description). You will be joining a thriving cohort of academic trainees and a critical mass of experienced researchers within a supportive environment.

You should apply if

  • You are medically qualified and registered with the GMC
  • You have a current National Training Number (NTN) in either Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) or have qualified as a General Practitioner
  • You have completed, or at least submitted, a higher degree by research by the time of applying for the post (PhD or MD or equivalent), which must have been awarded by the time of taking up the post
  • You want the opportunity to develop a substantial and coherent post-doctoral programme of research in General Practice or ICM; to gain more experience of teaching in a variety of contexts and contribute to medical education as appropriate; and to consolidate your clinical competence and experience in their respective specialty and achieve a CCT in ICM.

Additional information

Contract type: Fixed-term basis for a period of 4 years or until CCT, whichever occurs first, as NIHR will only permit ACL posts for a maximum duration of 6 years.

Work pattern: Full or part-time (at a minimum 66% FTE)

Grade: Doctors in Training or Academic GP/ Pathway One

Salary: We will mirror the successful applicants' NHS pay and progression, including transitional pay
