Overview

Wrightway is a distinguished Managing General Agent located in Wexford, Southeast Ireland, and operates under the regulation of the Central Bank of Ireland. Since its inception in 1999, Wrightway has proudly held the status of a Lloyd’s Coverholder. Today, the company employs a dedicated team of 42 professionals and manages business transactions with a gross premium value of approximately €42 million. Acting as a virtual insurer for our capacity providers, Wrightway is committed to trading exclusively with insurers that hold an "A Rated" or better status. As a Motor Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting and servicing existing accounts, as well as evaluating new business opportunities. You will utilize prudent and established underwriting practices within your authority, employing negotiation skills to secure expected retention, income, and rate aligned with company, team, and individual objectives. Your role will drive business revenue and structured growth.


How you'll make an impact

Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Underwriting & Expertise: Support the Motor underwriting function, ensuring alignment with Wrightway’s strategic objectives. Provide technical underwriting expertise across all Motor lines, handle referrals, and contribute to profitable growth. Innovate and future-proof products to ensure competitiveness and market alignment.
  • Underwriting Governance & Compliance: Ensure adherence to internal underwriting governance, including audits, peer reviews, and risk assessments. Maintain underwriting policies, documents, and processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards. Contribute to process improvements and policy updates.
  • Market Expertise, Insurer & Broker Relationships: Demonstrate market expertise with knowledge of industry trends, competitor activity, and regulatory changes. Regularly interact with Claims to ensure proactive Broker & Client meetings. Build and maintain relationships with capacity partners & key brokers to support new business and retention efforts.
  • Regulatory & Conduct Responsibilities: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and governance frameworks, including CBI requirements.


About You

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • Retention of renewal business and high customer retention rates.
  • Growth in Gross Written Premium (GWP) and maintenance of rate strength.
  • Performance against underwriting profitability and loss ratio targets.
  • Compliance with governance and regulatory standards.
Person Specification:
  • Qualifications: Recognized insurance qualification (FCII, ACII, or CIP) or relevant third-level academic qualification.
  • Technical Knowledge: Knowledge and understanding of the Commercial Motor Insurance market in Ireland, including insurance practices and procedures associated with this class of business. Demonstrable underwriting experience in Commercial Motor product lines and a strong market profile among the insurance broking community.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of previous Commercial Motor (HGV’s) underwriting experience. Previous experience in managing a scheme/portfolio is desirable.
  • Skills/Other: Excellent interpersonal skills, including listening, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to manage complex and highly confidential information. Comfortable working autonomously and across multiple tasks. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
