Brief Description
Deliver a dedicated and effective response to all real time railway incidents, and undertake proactive patrol and disruptive tasking in collaboration with the British Transport Police as part of an Emergency Intervention Unit. Address planned and unplanned disruption and security related issues as they arise.
Please be aware this role holds a mandatory requirement for the incumbent to hold valid security vetting clearance. Any offer will be conditional on the successful candidate obtaining clearance prior to a start date being agreed.

About the role (External)
Key Accountabilities:
1. Undertake proactive duties as directed by joint BTP/ Network Rail patrol plans.
2. Respond to accidents / incidents affecting the safe operation of the railway. Where necessary and appropriate, undertake the role of Rail Incident Officer [RIO1 or 2], take responsibility for the command structure being set-up and lead the co-ordination of the infrastructure and service restoration activities.
3. Collate information and evidence to support initial investigations into accidents and incidents, and provide reports as directed.
4. Participate in structured debriefs with the BTP to identify transferable lessons
5. Collate intelligence for Network Rail and BTP to inform infrastructure improvements and target- harden vulnerable locations,
6. Communicate effectively with key stakeholders including Network Rail Controls and BTP Control.
7. Maintain response equipment in good mechanical order and stored correctly in the BTP vehicles.
8. Act as Network Rails representative when encountering lineside neighbours and third parties When undertaking response activities, assist and inform the drivers hazard awareness.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in person, over the telephone and in writing
- Qualified as a rail incident officer
- Decision making skills
- Assertiveness
- Ability to prioritise
- Basic computer literacy
- First Aid competence (as defined in the standard)
- Conflict Management training
- Awareness of managing suicidal contacts
Desirable
- Hold full driving licence
- Numerate
- Time management skills
- Advanced Driving / Driver awareness training
- Ability to write reports
- Accident Investigation training
