NHS
£56,276 - £63,176 a year
City of London, England
Full time
We’re looking for a dynamic Senior Midwife to lead the Midwifery-Led Care (MLC) service within the Kensington Wing, the private maternity unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

As a senior clinical leader, you’ll play a key role in delivering safe, personalised, evidence-based care across the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal journey. Your expertise, leadership, and strong communication skills will help ensure an outstanding experience for private clients.

You’ll bring proven leadership experience, supporting colleagues and coordinating antenatal clinics, community care packages, and clinical shifts. Working closely with private obstetric consultants, you’ll uphold high clinical standards and foster a positive, customer-focused environment.

As an NHS employee, you’ll benefit from a generous pension, annual leave, and development opportunities—while working in a premium private setting.

What we’re looking for:
A senior registered midwife with broad maternity experience

Proven leadership and team support skills

Excellent communication and organisation

Strong understanding of private healthcare and client expectations

Commitment to personalised, woman- and family-centred care

Join a supportive, forward-thinking team committed to excellence in private maternity care.

Be aware of local and national maternity strategy and how this will shape the future of maternity services including working in partnership with other providers.

Our nearly 7,500 staff care for a diverse population of 1.5 million, providing full clinical services, including maternity, A&E, and children’s services, plus specialist HIV and sexual health clinics. The Care Quality Commission rates us 'Good' in safety, effectiveness, care, and responsiveness, and 'Outstanding' in leadership and resource use.

We continually invest in our facilities, including a £30m expansion of critical care at Chelsea and Westminster and an £80m Ambulatory Diagnostic Centre at West Middlesex.

We are committed to equal opportunities and believe that diversity drives innovation and excellence. As part of our dedication to equity, we actively welcome applications from individuals from the global majority, veterans and underrepresented communities. We value the unique perspectives and experiences that diverse teams bring and are committed to creating an environment where all voices are heard, respected, and empowered to succeed."

If you haven’t heard from us within three weeks of the closing date, your application was likely unsuccessful. Employment is subject to a six-month probationary period.

Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.

The post holder will be a clearly identifiable and essential senior clinical member of the team, responsible for leading the Midwifery-Led Care (MLC) service for Kensington Wing, the private maternity unit. They will bring significant clinical experience and expertise to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and compassionate, evidence-based care.

They will coordinate antenatal clinics and community care packages, maintain excellent communication and organisation with link consultants, and ensure the highest standard of clinical care in line with current guidelines. The post holder must also have a clear understanding of working within a private healthcare setting, including the expectations of clients and the importance of providing a personalised and customer-focused experience.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering and supporting the team to provide an exemplary service that promotes evidence-based care and advice to all women and birthing people, as well as their families. They will assess and deliver maternity care tailored to individual needs within the appropriate clinical pathways.

As part of their leadership responsibilities, the post holder will line manage and effectively roster Band 6 midwives within the MLC team to ensure continuity of services. They will also play an active role in recruitment, audits, complaint handling, and governance assurance. Additionally, they will lead shifts and ensure consistently high standards of clinical care within the ward environment, fulfilling their role as a senior midwife within the unit.
