Coffee Shop Kitchen Assistant Job Description
This job description is intended as a guideline; tasks may vary according to the requirements of the
customers and managing directors.
1. Job title – Coffee Shop Kitchen Assistant.
2. Reports to – Coffee Shop Leader/s and Director/s.
3. Job purpose:
- Serving and preparing food
- Keeping on top of washing up/ dish washer
- Preparing and managing ingredients and kitchen stock
- Following our task list and completing kitchen duties
- Serving customers
- Clearing tables
- Taking direct instruction from Manager/Leader
- Operate a till and serve customers (if/when needed)
- Responsible with other staff for all kitchen operations
4. Health and safety:
- Comply with the coffee shop allergen guidelines.
- Abide by the coffee shop Health and Safety Risk Assessment.
- Record any workplace accidents.
- Notify the coffee shop manager of any ‘near miss’ incidents.
5. Hygiene:
- Ensure the coffee shop customer area is maintained to a very high level of cleanliness and hygiene (including toilets).
- Abide by the coffee shop HACCP plan.
- Notify the coffee shop leader/director of any hygiene related incidents.
6. Stock:
- Notify the coffee shop manager of any stock requirements.
- Manage the delivery and receipt of stock.
7. Maintenance:
- Report any machine or building problems to the coffee shop manager.
8. Other general specific duties for area of work:
Back of house
- Pantry is kept tidy and clean always. Food, packaging and drinks are stored tidily and are able to be identified and accessed easily.
- kitchen area is always cleaned as you go. Surfaces and equipment are thoroughly washed and sprayed between use.
- Milkshakes are to be made in the designated area with relevant equipment. All ingredients must be stored and put away correctly and never left to one side.
- Washing up is a shared task, when there is time where you are free washing up and tidying up is the task which needs to be managed.
- Toastie and panini area is kept organised and clean. This is to avoid cross contamination. The panini press should be wiped between each food item made.
- Ingredients should be stored correctly at all times and only left on the side when using them.
- Paninis and toasties to be made and kept in the fridge. Date stickers are used to distinguish whether the food is in date. Fresh food is always put to the back/ bottom of the pile.
- Microwave, fridges and freezers are wiped out and tidied each day.
Coffee Shop Kitchen Assistant Person Specification
Customer related – the ideal coffee shop kitchen assistant will be friendly and understand the importance of customer service and hospitality. They will be willing to go out of their way to help customers.
Drive – confident and able to use their own initiative to maintain customer satisfaction. Willing to learn, flexible and adaptable and go that extra mile.
Qualifications – no formal qualifications required though the assistant must be numerate and confident in using standard retail equipment, for instance tills and card processing machines.
Experience – experience of working in a coffee shop or other customer facing role is preferred but not essential.
