About the role

Join Imperial College London as the Head of Fire Safety, leading the development and implementation of fire safety strategies across our campuses. This senior leadership role is crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of students, staff, and visitors by overseeing fire safety operations and fostering a strong fire safety culture. What you would be doing

As the Head of Fire Safety, you will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive fire safety strategy aligned with the University’s broader health and safety objectives. You will provide strategic advice and evidence-based leadership on key fire safety issues, support Faculties and Departments in compiling and reviewing fire risk assessments and establish fire safety policies. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with fire safety legislation, monitoring contractors, and influencing strategic decisions on new developments and refurbishments. Additionally, you will manage fire safety training, investigate fire-related incidents, and act as a key member of the University’s crisis management team. Building strong relationships with external fire safety regulators and leading a high-performing team of fire safety professionals will also be key aspects of your role.


What we are looking for

The successful applicant will have:

  • A recognised professional qualification in Fire Safety (Level 4 Diploma or equivalent) as well as in Fire Risk Assessment (e.g. NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management), together with extensive experience in a fire safety leadership role within a complex, multi-site organization.
  • Expertise in fire safety legislation, building regulations, fire risk management, and fire engineering principles.
  • Strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to manage complex projects.
  • A forward-thinking, evidence-based approach with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Ability to work efficiently within a complex organization.
