Introduction to the Role
We are looking for a passionate candidate who can add value to our team and who we can truly get behind to help develop as an individual. The successful candidate will Head our Surveying Department within the business..
As Head of Building Surveying at AM Surveying & Block Management, your duties and
responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
- You will be head of the department, leading on workload, quality control and workflow of the department generally.
- You will be responsible for booking in jobs for Building Surveyors via our Software already logged by others and in some cases, you will need to log jobs yourself and manage such accordingly. You must ensure all workflow for Surveyors is represented by an issue on our Software.
- You will be responsible for handling inbound Building Surveying related work from internal departments, i.e. our Block Managers and from clients directly.
- Management of tenders for major works. Acting as the central contact within the office in this regard. Overseeing the preparation of tender packs to tend to contractors. Ensuring junior surveyors are reporting to PM team on receipt of such.
- Taking overall responsibility to the department’s obligations towards the Major Works
- procedure.
- You will need to review work performed by your team to ensure it meets company standards.
- You will need to train your team on the use of company systems.
- You will set the example for exemplary/best practice use of company systems.
- You will report to the Company Director.
- You will be primarily desk based in the office, with responsibility to attend to on site
instructions for more complex / larger scale matters.
- You will perform monthly one to ones with your team.
- You will lead on recruitment decisions for your team, conducting interviews and working with our Office Manager and presenting your recommendations to the Company Director on such.
- You will be responsible for raising invoices for inbound works orders relating to the department, including Section 20 works
- You will perform the usual duties of a Building Surveyor where such requires your attention and not that of your team, which means conducting site visits for defect diagnosis, project management and other duties of a Building Surveyor. You will delegate to your team on this, however higher level or more complex matters may require your attention on site.
- You will represent the brand values and set the example in this regard.
- Work on development of a new Home Buyers Survey Department with our BDM & Director.

Experience/Qualifications:
- Have an excellent understanding of building pathology and is able to demonstrate such
- Must have a qualification in building surveying and a RICS accredited qualification or similar equivalent. Preferably a Masters in Building Surveying.
- Is able to present themselves well to colleagues, clients and residents of the AM portfolio
- Is able to display good professional communication skills including verbally and written
- Is able to structure ideas and methods of repairs/works concisely and clearly verbally and in written form
- Be able to manage their workload and show good timekeeping and punctuality
- Have a minimum of 5 years surveying experience in a similar property role
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of Building / Construction techniques
- Ability to review information in detail, analyse and report concisely
- Excellent technical knowledge in planned works
- Must be friendly and have a professional attitude.
- Must have excellent spoken and written English skills.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £50,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
