Job Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic gardener/groundsman to help manage and maintain the Estate's 200 acres of grounds. Areas include formal gardens, kitchen and walled garden, large lake, the wider Grade II* Parkland landscape.
Candidate must be confident working in a heritage setting, and have the relevant experience ideally in similar roles.
The position offered is for a yearly rolling contract, we are looking for someone to stay within the team for many years, this is a long term position.
Responsibilities
- Perform regular maintenance tasks including mowing, trimming, and edging lawns.
- Utilise hand tools and power tools effectively for various gardening tasks.
- Use of chainsaws for tree and boundary maintenance.
- Fencing repair and installation.
- Implement irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of plants and landscapes.
- Assist in planting, pruning, and caring for trees, shrubs, flowers, and other vegetation.
- Conduct routine inspections of gardens and landscapes to identify issues such as pests or diseases.
- Maintain cleanliness of grounds by removing debris and litter.
- Collaborate with team members to execute landscape design projects as needed.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and report any significant findings, as well as machinery inspection and maintancnce.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Applicants must have excellent all-round horticultural knowledge, ideally holding a RHS Level 3
- Chainsaw licence CS30/31/32
- Confident in operating/maintaining garden machinery, some large.
- Candidate must have all own hand tools and small machinery required for completing the tasks, such as but not limited to, strimmers, mowers, leaf blowers, chainsaws. The estate has some larger machinery such as ride on mowers, trailers and telehandlers
- Knowledge of irrigation systems and their operation is highly desirable.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high standards of work and tidiness.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in various weather conditions.
- A valid driving licence may be required for transportation between job sites. This position offers an opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors and have a keen interest in maintaining beautiful landscapes.
