We are currently seeking a dynamic, experienced, and hands-on Head Gardener to join our team. This is a leadership role that offers the opportunity to guide and inspire a skilled team across multiple high-profile sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and motivate a team of 4–6 professional gardeners
- Float between two gardening teams across different estates, ensuring consistent standards, coordination, and staff support
- Work alongside management to organise daily and weekly work schedules, delegate tasks effectively, and monitor team performance
- Provide training and mentorship to junior staff, supporting their professional development
- Conduct site assessments and report to senior management on progress, staffing, and resource needs
- Foster a positive team culture based on respect, efficiency, and high horticultural standards
- Maintain and develop formal and informal gardens, including borders, shrubbery, kitchen gardens, and lawn areas
- Oversee all aspects of lawn care, including mowing, feeding, scarifying, aeration, and seasonal renovation
- Ensure the safe and efficient use of machinery, tools and specialist equipment.
- Liaise regularly with clients and internally with management to ensure expectations are met and exceeded
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven leadership and team management experience in a professional horticultural environment
- Previous experience as a Head Gardener, Senior Gardener, or similar supervisory role
- Formal horticultural qualifications (e.g. RHS Level 3 or equivalent)
- Excellent lawn care and turf management expertise
- Comprehensive plant knowledge and passion for delivering exceptional outdoor spaces
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Practical experience with garden machinery, tools, and other specialist equipment
- Self-motivated, dependable, and capable of working under pressure across multiple sites
Desirable:
- PA1/PA6 spraying certificates
- Chainsaw and machinery operation certificates
- Experience working on large private estates or other high profile gardens
