This appointment is for an Essential Skills Lecturer. We are seeking an enthusiastic and determined teacher to ensure learners are engaged with these areas and well prepared for assessment, using as appropriate, differentiated tasks and specialised strategies to motivate and sustain interest, and to develop learners’ confidence and self-esteem.

The successfully appointed Essential Skills lecturer will support learners who are following a wide range of Work Based Learning and Further Education courses at the college, to ensure that they have the appropriate skills to succeed in their learning.
Experience of delivering Essential Skills Qualifications as well as qualified teaching status would be preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake the teaching and assessment of Essential Skills qualifications (Application of Number, Digital Skills and Communication).
- Liaise with the Head of Lifelong Learning to ensure that Quality Assurance Internal Verification procedures are undertaken in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Ensure that all successfully completed Essential Skills Qualifications are claimed for in a timely manner.
- Report to the Head of Lifelong Learning regarding progress and completion.
- Carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Criteria:
- Degree or equivalent qualification
- Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at the date of employment, you will be required to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date)
- GCSE English at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
- GCSE Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
- Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development
- Good literacy/numeracy/digital literacy skills
- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
- Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly
Desirable Criteria:
- Relevant teaching experience
- A good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education
- A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment
- Awareness of key performance indicators
- Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
- Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance
- Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people
