Employability Advisor (International and Postgraduate)
The University of Chester is seeking an enthusiastic and culturally aware Employability Advisor (International and Postgraduate Taught) to join our Careers and Employability team. This newly created role reflects our strategic commitment to internationalisation and postgraduate success and offers a unique opportunity to shape the employability journey of students from around the world.
As part of a dynamic and forward-thinking department, the postholder will support a growing population of international and PGT students across the academic year, helping them navigate complex UK and global job markets. You’ll be based at Queen’s Park and Exton Park, with a strong presence during welcome, induction, and vacation periods, and a focus on delivering tailored, practical careers support.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver professional 1:1 advice, drop-ins, and employability workshops tailored to the needs of international and postgraduate students.
- Create engaging careers resources, toolkits, and recorded content that builds students’ skills and confidence.
- Collaborate with university departments, including Student Services, the International Office, Language Support, and academic schools.
- Use destination data and labour market intelligence to inform strategy, measure success, and support institutional reporting.
- Contribute to the development of the University’s international employability strategy, supporting transition programmes, employability cafés, and student networking initiatives.
- Represent the Careers and Employability team at events such as international student welcome days, open days, and postgraduate fairs.
About You
You will be a confident communicator with experience supporting diverse student groups, particularly international students. You’ll have strong organisational skills, a proactive approach, and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural understanding.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about student success and global employability, with the ability to plan and deliver meaningful activities that enhance student confidence and graduate outcomes.
Essential criteria include:
- A degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience providing careers or employability advice/support.
- Strong knowledge of the UK and international labour markets.
- Ability to design and deliver group sessions and resources.
- Cultural sensitivity and an inclusive mindset.
