The Role & Key Responsibilities
From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.
It is our mission to support our front line colleagues, identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.
Based within Data Bureau at Surrey Police Headquarters, we are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic candidate with a strong eye for detail to assist a Supervisor in running their team. A lateral thinker who loves investigating records and fixing problems, you will also have some experience in mentoring and training people and have a strong sense of social responsibility and commitment to safeguarding the public.
You will be responsible for performing standard and higher-level enquiries and creating and maintaining records held on the Police National Computer. This could relate to a vulnerable missing person or a dangerous criminal; a vehicle being driven by a people trafficker or a stolen firearm.
You will also assist the Supervisor in considering information for disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service by assessing data passed to you by operators within the unit. These checks ensure that the best people are able to work with children and vulnerable adults in supporting and empowering roles, and that service users are protected from unsuitable applicants.
You will be based at Surrey Police Headquarters in Mount Browne but have the opportunity to work agilely, including from home - subject to operational need.
Skills & Experience
You will be a proactive, lateral thinker, preferably having worked in a police environment with PNC or within a DBS unit, with some experience in mentoring other staff.
It is essential to have accurate keyboard skills and to be able to show practical ability in using Windows-based computer appliances. In addition, you will possess excellent written, analytical and verbal communication skills.
It is essential that candidates appreciate the confidentiality surrounding this role, especially in matters relating to personal data and other sensitive material.
It is also essential that the post-holder is able to work a 3 shift system over Monday – Friday, for which an allowance is paid.
