An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Credit Controller to join our team on a full-time, permanent contract. This role will see you working closely with our finance team and fee earners to monitor accounts, manage debt recovery, and ensure client payments are processed effectively. The ability to multi-task with confidence — balancing deadlines, maintaining accurate records, and handling sensitive conversations with professionalism — will be key to your success in this role.
What you’ll do:
- Proactively contacting clients by phone to discuss and resolve outstanding balances.
- Handling incoming calls from clients, including processing card payments.
- Drafting and sending clear, professional emails and letters to recover debts.
- Taking appropriate follow-up action where necessary (e.g. issuing proceedings).
- Organising and managing your own credit control workload effectively.
- Supporting the Head of Working Capital in monitoring and reducing debt exposure.
- Assisting the finance team with tasks such as preparing and issuing invoices, entering financial data into accounting software, processing cheques and supplier invoices, and recording daily receipts, payments, and transfers between accounts.
Who you’ll be:
- Previous experience in credit control and finance.
- Confident IT skills, particularly with Excel and Outlook.
- Strong numeracy, with the ability to pick things up quickly.
- Excellent organisational skills — able to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proactive, with good self-management, problem-solving ability, and initiative.
- A commitment to working in line with the firm’s values.
- Knowledge of the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules and SOS software would be an advantage, but full training will be provided.
