The Kaleidoscope Powys substance use service provides a range for services for anyone experiencing problems because of drug or alcohol use, including therapeutic interventions and prescribing medication. Overseeing the delivery of harm reduction services and advice, including the provision of Prenoxad training, Needle Syringe Provision and Dry Blood Spot Testing as well as prescribing medication such as Opiate Substitute medications,

We welcome individuals with their own lived experience of substance and alcohol use and/or mental health and from those who have supported others with lived experience.

Role Purpose:

The Court and Custody Worker role aims to improve the lives and wellbeing of people with multiple needs who require intensive support and may find it difficult to navigate or engage with services, revolve in and out of services or have barriers to accessing services.

The worker will use a trauma informed strength-based approach to assess a person and enable them to access the services they need that offer a range of evidence-based interventions to help people increase their resilience, gain confidence, acquire the personal and social assets they need to meet their goals, reduce risks and gain/maintain suitable, stable accommodation.

To work as part of an integrated team providing collaborative case management to those in contact with the criminal justice system. To provide an effective link with court and prison establishments, supporting those within the court process and entering and exiting prison custody. To provide holistic and structured recovery coordination and psychosocial interventions to service clients, their families and carers. Working to ensure effective delivery of recovery coordination within the full integrated service model.

The worker will develop a comprehensive data base that will track service users from court appearance and engagement with service through, their journey while in custody and their discharge. The person will. The worker will work with prison’s and develop care plans for the person’s release while in custody. This will include links and referrals to housing, treatment services and continuity of medication and CMHTs.

It is essential that the post-holder establishes and maintains good working relationships with clients and undertakes working with clients in a friendly and approachable manner. Failure in this area is likely to cause the post-holder to be inappropriate for the work involved. Although all staff are appointed to work in specific areas of Kaleidoscope it must be understood that all appointments are made to Kaleidoscope as a whole. In time of need, management are able to mobilise the staffing resource of Kaleidoscope to meet these needs.

This post has been identified as requiring the post holder to provide evidence of BBV immunisation status in order to carry out the role effectively. The role may require the post holder to undertake Dry Blood Spot Testing/ Substance Misuse Testing/ Working in Needle Exchange or is a clinical role and therefore Kaleidoscope wishes to ensure that staff are not at risk of infection or transmission of a disease that may affect their own or patient safety. Staff will therefore need to evidence their immunisation history, exemption or non-responder on commencement of employment or at routine intervals at the request of the Organisation
