We are seeking a highly experienced Cardiologist to provide expert medical insights and guidance across underwriting, claims assessment, and annuities. This role is pivotal in supporting the company’s reinsurance operations by ensuring medical accuracy, consistency, and compliance in evaluating health-related risks and claims.
Key Responsibilities:
- Medical Risk Assessment:
- Review and evaluate medical records, underwriting submissions, and claims to assess health risks and mortality/morbidity trends.
- Provide expert opinions on complex medical cases impacting reinsurance treaties and facultative placements.
- Claims Review& Support:
- Assist in adjudicating high-value or medically complex claims.
- Collaborate with claims teams to ensure fair and medically sound claim decisions.
- Underwriting Support:
- Advise underwriting teams on medical aspects of life, health, and annuity reinsurance products.
- Provide expert opinion on medical underwriting guidelines and protocols.
- Research& Analytics:
- Stay current with medical advancements, epidemiological trends, and emerging health risks.
- Contribute to internal research projects and white papers on medical risk topics.
- Training& Development:
- Provide training internally at RGA and externally to clients
- Work closely with global medical team representing the UK and contributing to product development, critical illness definition reviews and insight into developing biometric trends.
- Medical degree (MD or equivalent) with valid license to practice.
- Board certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., internal medicine, cardiology, oncology).
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience; prior experience in insurance or reinsurance preferred.
- Strong understanding of insurance medicine, underwriting principles, and claims processes.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and medical coding systems (ICD, CPT).
- Experience in life, health, or disability reinsurance.
- Knowledge of global health trends and their impact on insurance risk.
- Ability to interpret complex medical data and translate it into actionable business insights.
