This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a young, dynamic team of interventional cardiologists within a well-established and highly respected cardiology department. The role includes dedicated sessions in the cardiac catheterisation lab and as part of a robust primary angioplasty rota.

The role not only provides hands-on interventional cardiology opportunities but also places emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration, clinical leadership, and service development. You will play a central role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care through consultant-led coronary care unit (CCU) ward rounds, the management of acute cardiac inpatients, and outpatient cardiology clinics.

You will be working across two hospital sites, joining a team of 15 consultant cardiologists who are supported by a highly skilled and committed group of nurses, physiologists, and junior medical staff. The department prides itself on maintaining a culture of clinical excellence, continuous improvement, and strong educational values. It has a strong track record in innovation and research and actively encourages involvement in service development and academic pursuits.

Main Duties of the Job

Provide consultant-level care in interventional cardiology, with regular sessions in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory, contributing to the 24/7 primary PCI service.
Lead daily ward rounds on the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), ensuring continuity of care and timely decision-making for acute cardiology patients.
Run consultant-led outpatient cardiology clinics, offering expert diagnostic and treatment services across a range of cardiac conditions.
Contribute to the supervision, mentoring, and teaching of junior medical staff, including specialty trainees, foundation doctors, and medical students.
Participate actively in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
Engage with ongoing educational activities and professional development, both as a participant and as a facilitator.
Support the department’s involvement in research, innovation, and the development of new clinical pathways.
Applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Cardiology or be within six months of obtaining their CCT at the time of interview. Alternatively, candidates with a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) must already be listed on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of application.
