Unit Management Team Trustee (UMT Trustee)

Introduction:Sea Cadet units rely on dedicated volunteers for their management and operation. The Unit Management Team (UMT) serves as the unit’s trustees, led by the Unit Chairperson (UC), and is responsible for overseeing the unit at a strategic and managerial level.

Time in Post:UMT Members, including the UC, are elected annually and have the option to stand for re-election at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Primary Purpose:The primary role of UMT Trustees is to collaborate with the UC in effectively managing a safe and successful Sea Cadet unit.

Secondary Purposes:

Trustees may be appointed or volunteer to take on specific roles or look after specialist areas of unit management including but not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance and Governance:Ensure that all unit activities and matters are conducted in compliance with legal requirements, charity regulations, and MSSC policies and procedures.
Uphold the welfare, safety, and protection of volunteers and cadets involved in the Sea Cadet experience.

Facilities and Assets:Ensure unit premises and assets are properly maintained, serviced, and secure.

Strategic Planning:Identify unit priorities and potential issues, and maintain plans to address them.

Financial Management:Raise funds to cover unit running costs and provide resources for efficient training and additional projects.

Personnel and Training:Ensure the unit has a Commanding Officer (CO) and an adequate number of instructional volunteers to meet cadet training needs.

Child Protection and Safeguarding:Safeguard cadets from any form of abuse by adhering to the MSSC Child Protection Policy and Procedures, seeking support and advice from the MSSC Safeguarding team as necessary.
