Main Responsibilities
- Ensure that residents are at the heart of care delivery and that their wishes and preferences enhance their wellbeing
- Contribute to the effective running of the service.
- Ensure that residents have a person centred good dining experience
- Ensure that residents are actively engaged in meaningful activities that suit their needs
- Maintain accurate relevant records suitable for the role, inform the Person in Charge of any changes in residents’ needs
- Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of every resident
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other care staff as well as other departments working in the care home
- If desired by the residents, develop and maintain relationships with family, friends and other people important in their life
- Read care plans and notes for information. Write accurate detailed progress notes, ensure any accident or incident is reported factually, and a comprehensive handover is completed with oncoming staff.
- Be familiar with all emergency procedures, including the hospital escort procedure, and to understand that hospital escort is part of the role of care assistant.
- Be polite, professional and reasonable at all times
- Be a role model for other staff and be an ambassador for the home
- Always attend mandatory training and any other training as directed by management
- Be sure to understand and follow all policies and procedures relevant to the role and resident’s care and wellbeing
- Maintain and support the standards for infection prevention and control in line with agreed guidelines.
- Ensure that any damage to equipment, furniture, fittings etc. is reported immediately to management.
- Ensure that all resident’s personal belongings, company property and facilities are treated with respect.
- Support a safe working practice in the home.
- Report any unsafe working practice without delay
Person Specification
Essential
Good English – written and verbal
NVQ Level 2 qualification
Experience
Providing personal care to include bathing, eating, dressing, grooming and using the bathroom
Previous experience of working in a similar environment
Skills/Attributes
Good communication skills to establish personal connections
Ability to communicate well with the Person in Charge in relation to particular needs and changes
Ability to adapt quickly and address a variety of situations
The ability to offer flexibility in working pattern to cover sickness and holidays.
Additional Requirements
This is a developing role and the post holder will be required to flex and adapt as the role embeds
