Job Title: Care Assistant

Responsible to: Home manager

Accountable to: Home Manager

28 Hours per week

Job Summary:

· To participate in the delivery of care to the service users ensuring that their physical, social, intellectual and emotional needs are met.

· To preserve service user’s dignity, treat with respect, foster independence and encourage individual choice.

· To ensure that all aspects of the Regulatory Framework are met.

· Work effectively with others within the home to ensure that service user’s needs are fully met.

Role and Responsibilities:

· To ensure each service user receives assistance with all elements of their personal care to include washing, dressing and assisting service users in all aspects of daily living.

· To provide adequate and appropriate care for those service users confined to bed.

· To participate with the team for continual monitoring of each service users health needs. To include appropriate liaison with senior staff and other relevant staff.

· To have an understanding of service users risk management plans and work appropriately.

· To assist service users who have mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including incontinence. To assist in the use, maintenance and care of personal aids and equipment.

· To help serve meals, prepare and clear dining room and assist service users with eating and drinking as required.

· To make beds, tidy rooms, empty and clean commodes and undertake designated cleaning duties. In line with COSHH guidelines and company Infection control policy.

· To inspect service users clothing, launder and ensure repairs are carried out by the designated member of staff.

· To answer call bells, the door, answer the telephone and greet visitors in a courteous manner.

· To participate in the Key worker system as defined within the home.

· Assist as required with social functions held at the home.

· To make written, legible observations of the service users and report any changes in service users condition directly to the nurse in charge.

· To attend mandatory training sessions as directed by the Home Manager.

· To understand and observe all relevant regulations and company policies and procedures.

· To follow appropriate procedures in the event of accidents/ emergencies. Eg fire, missing service users.

· Ensure that the home is secure at all times whilst on duty.

· To report to relevant persons with respect to the repairs and maintenance of the home.

· To ensure that unnecessary damage to building and contents is not caused by careless movement wheelchairs, trolleys or hoists.

· To be approachable, flexible and supportive to staff and managers.

· To attend staff meetings when appropriate.

· Attend supervision meetings with your appointed supervisor at least six times per year.(pro rata for part time staff)

· To maintain confidentiality at all times.

· To be aware of and comply with safe working practices as laid down by the Health and Safety at Work Act.

· Uphold and promote anti discriminatory practice, equality and diversity throughout your work.

· To report any incidents or allegations of abuse following the correct steps in line with the company Safeguarding Adult Policies and procedures and Local Safeguarding Adults policies.

· To undertake such other duties as may be mutually determined from time to time.
