We’re looking for an experienced and capable cafe chef to join a busy café kitchen based at a family-run garden centre just outside Maidenhead. This is a daytime-only role, ideal for someone who wants to continue doing what they love – cooking good, honest food, without the long evenings or late finishes.
The café has around 70 covers and gets busy, especially at breakfast and lunch. We make food to order, using fresh ingredients, and there’s a fair bit of prep involved each day. Yes, there are microwaves it’s a café, not fine dining – but this isn’t one of those chain kitchens where everything comes pre-cooked and vacuum packed. You need to know your way around a chopping board, and be confident working with real ingredients.
What the job involves:
- Running the day-to-day kitchen operation
- Leading food prep and service – especially for breakfast, which is cooked to order and gets busy
- Managing stock, food safety and kitchen hygiene
- Supporting and training a small kitchen team
- Working with front-of-house to keep service smooth and efficient
- Contributing to menu development and specials
What we’re looking for:
- Someone with experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef or similar
- Confident in a busy kitchen and calm under pressure
- Takes pride in cooking proper food from scratch, not just heating things up
- Organised, clean, and a team player
- Enjoys working in a relaxed, friendly setting with a bit of hustle
