Our prime location makes us the primary hub for the dedicated early morning teams at the BBC, including the crews working within the nearby ABC Building, who rely on us to fuel their day.
The Role
Are you a true morning person with a passion for great coffee and a natural talent for leadership? We are seeking an energetic and organised Early Morning Supervisor to lead our opening team.
This is a critical, hands-on role focused on our peak morning rush. You will be the face of our store during the busiest hours, responsible for ensuring a seamless, high-quality experience for our customers. You will set the tone for the entire day, motivating yourself and the team to deliver outstanding service and maintaining our high standards from the moment the doors open.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Management: Oversee all opening procedures, including sales management, equipment setup (espresso machine, grinders, Gran and Go concept), and ensuring the store is perfectly presented for opening.
- Team Leadership: Lead the morning shift team (typically solo at times or 1 extra baristas/team members), delegating tasks, providing on-the-spot training, and fostering a positive, high-energy work environment.
- Quality Control: Ensure the highest standards for all food and beverage items. This includes dialling in the coffee grinder for perfect espresso extraction, checking the quality of pastries and breakfast items, and maintaining consistency in every order.
- Exceptional Customer Service: Champion a welcoming atmosphere, build a strong rapport with our regulars from the BBC and other media outlets, and handle any customer queries or issues with professionalism and efficiency.
- Pace & Flow Management: Proactively manage queue times and workflow during the intense 6am - 11am to ensure speed of service without compromising quality.
- Stock & Inventory: Monitor daily stock levels of key items (milk, coffee beans, bread, fresh ingredients, G&G orders) and assist with placing orders to ensure we are always prepared for service.
- Health & Safety: Uphold all food safety and health & safety regulations, ensuring the team adheres to best practices in cleanliness and hygiene.
What We're Looking For (Skills & Qualifications)
Essential:
- Proven experience in a supervisory role (Shift Leader, Supervisor, or Assistant Manager) within a fast-paced coffee shop, café, or hospitality environment.
- A genuine passion for and knowledge of coffee; skilled in espresso machine operation,coffee art desirable but not essential.
- A natural morning person who is reliable, punctual, and thrives in the early hours.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate a team during high-pressure periods.
- Extremely organised with a keen eye for detail.
- Calm and efficient under pressure.
Desirable:
- Specialty coffee experience.
- Experience with inventory management and placing orders with suppliers.
- First Aid at Work certificate.
- Familiarity with the MediaCityUK environment and the demands of serving a media-professional clientele.
