The Role

We’re looking for a Technical Specialist to join our Engineering and Safety scrum team within the Asset Management value stream, responsible for maintaining and evolving a suite of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications that support critical engineering and safety processes across SSE Thermal’s operational fleet. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary Agile team delivering upgrades, enhancements, and support in a DevSecOps environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys improving operational software, solving problems collaboratively, and working with a modern cloud technology stack. Experience in an asset-intensive or energy sector environment is desirable.

You Will

As a Technical Specialist, you’ll ensure the performance, reliability, and improvement of essential digital tools used across engineering and safety operations.

  • Maintain, upgrade, and support COTS applications through Agile sprints and DevOps pipelines—ensuring secure, stable, and high-performing systems.
  • Investigate and resolve application issues, collaborating with business users and technical teams to deliver timely fixes and root-cause insights.
  • Implement enhancements, integrations, and system optimisations in line with evolving business needs and product roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with Analysts, Product Owners, and suppliers to document changes, maintain support materials, and drive operational readiness.
  • Contribute to compliance, continuity, and vulnerability management processes as part of the wider IT governance framework.

You Have

  • Experience supporting or administering COTS or operational software in energy, utilities, or similar regulated sectors.
  • Solid understanding of Agile and DevOps principles, including incident/problem management, CI/CD, and system monitoring.
  • Strong technical familiarity with Azure, SQL Server, and cloud-integrated applications.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills, with experience working across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Experience with applications such as PI, Beamex CMX, Opralog, Beran, or Smart Signal is an advantage.
