We have a vacancy for an Animal Care Assistant at RSPCA Taylors Rehoming Centre

The post is for 4-5 days per week. Working hours will be 7 hours a day, and will include Saturday and Sunday working

Applicants must have professional experience of animal care.

and Animal Management Level 2 diploma or equivalent animal related qualification

OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB

To provide care and welfare to all animals at the Centre.

To work closely with the Manager, establish good working relationships with staff and volunteers and adhere to all current policies and procedures.

To provide excellent customer service, by responding face-to-face, by phone or email in a professional and timely manner.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Welfare of animals at the Centre

1. Assist with the preliminary assessment, ongoing inspection and or treatment of animals by a Veterinary Surgeon, or other authorised person at the Centre.

2. Carry out checks on animals, including the taking of temperature and inspection of eyes, ears, nose and throat for signs of infection or abnormality, reporting any abnormalities to the Manager or person in charge.

3. Identify a suitable diet, prepare and provide food and water for all animals at the Centre.

4. Attend to the needs of the individual animals including administration of first aid, treatments and medications, coat care and grooming.

5. Clean, disinfect and maintain to a high standard of cleanliness animal accommodation, treatment room facilities, food preparation, laundry and storage areas.

6. To carry out routine animal behaviour monitoring/assessment and implement behavioural training plans where needed.

7. To ensure all fostering, adoption and post-adoption processes and procedures are conducted correctly, thoroughly and professionally.

Customer Care

1. To deal with enquiries from the general public, RSPCA inspectorate, staff, volunteers and Trustees on a range of issues including animal acceptance, adoption, fostering, animal abuse and complaints.

2. To meet and greet people on arrival to the centre and provide a professional approach to all those visiting

3. To support the animal adoption/fostering process including initial interview and administrative support.

Administration

1. To be responsible for the efficient recording, filing and retrieving of all administrative records relating to animal acceptance, fostering, adoption and rehoming procedures.

2. To maintain records, registers and statistics as required.

3. To support the Manager in updating the animal records on Animal Shelter Manager

Health and Safety

1. To take responsibility for own health and safety at work and that of others, including staff, volunteers and all other visitors.

2. To ensure all procedures in the Health and Safety Manual are followed as instructed.

3. To assist with regular inspection and maintenance of all equipment.

4. To ensure that all areas within and outside the building are clean and tidy with no obstructions or hazards present.

Security and Maintenance

1. To make sure the reception area, animal enclosures and stock rooms are secure throughout the day and when work finishes.

2. To report any faulty equipment including lighting, heating, fixtures and fittings to the Centre Manager or person in charge.

3. To ensure the safe, drug cabinet and contents are kept securely.

Fundraising and Publicity

1. To promote public interest in the work of the Centre and the RSPCA, wherever possible and to encourage donations.

2. To participate in fundraising or publicity events organised by the Centre or Trustees.

3. To maximise the use of social media to raise public awareness of the Centre and RSPCA.
