Do you have practical skills (e.g. from working in the trades) and the ability to use hand and power tools safely? Are you seeking a new role that puts these skills to use, making people’s homes safer so they can continue to live in their own homes? Join our dedicated team and empower older people and people with disabilities in Islington to live safely and independently at home.
About MRS Independent Living
For nearly 40 years, MRS Independent Living has been committed to creating a society where everyone has control over their lives, maintaining independence, activity, and connection to the world around them. Our mission is to provide practical help, enabling people who need support to live safely and well within their homes and communities. We primarily serve older people, individuals with disabilities, and those facing mental health challenges.
The impact you'll make
As an Adaptations Fitter, you will be instrumental in enabling people with physical and mobility needs to stay independent and achieve a safe living environment at home. Working primarily in the London Borough of Islington (LBI), you will install minor home adaptations such as grab rails and stair rails, and supply and fit disability aids. Your work will directly support referrals from LBI's Occupational Therapy team and help people with support needs navigate their homes with greater safety and ease.
About the role
This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) for an initial 3-month fixed-term contract to help us meet an anticipated increase in workload over the period. We will consider requests for part-time working although we are ideally looking for a minimum of 3 days per week. At the end of the 3-month period there may be the potential to extend the contract, pending discussions with service commissioners. The salary is £32,430 FTE per annum.
Following initial training, you will mostly work independently in service users’ homes, with ongoing support and supervision from the Senior Trusted Assessor and Adaptations Fitter. If the post is extended, there may also be a later opportunity to train as a Trusted Assessor.
If you are ready to use your skills to improve the quality of life for individuals in your community, we encourage you to apply!
